Rohit Sharma stats vs Sri Lanka – An Lanka India Series | GamePlan Today Talks

The BCCI has altered the itinerary for the upcoming Sri Lanka’s India tour for those unaware. Three T20 internationals will be played first, followed by the Test series.

The first T20I between India and Sri Lanka would be contested in Lucknow on February 24, 2022, with the 2nd and 3rd matches in Dharamsala. It shall be on February 26 and 27.

In the T20 series, Rohit Sharma will retain to head the Indian cricket team. His captaincy has gotten off to a great start. India won a 3-0 series over New Zealand and dominated the three-match T20 tournament vs the West Indies 3-0.

Observing how he performs as captain over Sri Lanka in the forthcoming T20 series would be intriguing.

The activities reminded us of the Hitman and his records. So, GamePlan Today is now discussing Lanka India hit with Rohit Sharma as its representative.

Initial Career – A Sneek Peek:

Rohit Sharma’s cricket career may be divided into two periods. The first was before the 2013 Champions Trophy, while the second was after.

Former Indian captain MS Dhoni’s choice to start Rohit Sharma in the 2013 Champions Trophy gave him a fresh life lease. However, Rohit Sharma didn’t stop after that. With his batting, the big-scorer has set several records.

After starting striking as an opener for the Indian National Cricket squad, Rohit Sharma, dubbed “The Hitman,” flipped around his cricket career.

Rohit Sharma ODI Records vs Sri Lanka:

264 of 173 Balls vs Sri Lanka

The 27-year-old then needed only 28 balls to go from 50 to 100, then another 66 from 100 to 250! He achieved 264 runs from only 173 deliveries when he was removed with the penultimate ball of the innings.

To put Rohit’s dominance in perspective, remember that Robin Uthappa recorded a 128-run partnership from just 58 balls, of which he scored just 16.

The Nagpur man’s fantastic effort, which included 33 fours and nine sixes, earned him a spot in history. Sharma is the first to achieve a double century in an ODI and the first man to exceed 250.

Rohit’s performance was immensely excellent (and it was), but he was assisted and encouraged by a sloppy Sri Lankan side.

The warning indicators were present in India’s first three matches, which it won by 169 runs and six wickets thrice. Fielding, commonly used to gauge a team’s mood, suggests a deep bottom in the Sri Lankan camp.

208* of 153 balls vs Sri Lanka

Another memorable inning by Rohit Sharma vs Sri Lanka. But this time it was at Mohali during Sri Lanka’s tour of  India 2017. After losing the first ODI game vs Sri Lanka at Dharamsala, in which India fumbled to just 112 runs losing a game by 7 wickets.

A must-win game for India to keep the ODI series alive. After winning the toss Sri Lanka chooses to field first hoping to restrict India under 250 runs. But Rohit had other plans, he scored his third double century in ODI internationals scoring 208* of just 153 balls.

Rohit and Dhawan opened the innings with gave India a good start by providing a 115 runs partnership. Then came a man Shreya Iyer who gave a nightmare to Sri Lankan bowlers, the pair put up a 215 runs partnership for the second with Shreyas scoring 88 runs off 70 balls. India scored 147 runs in the last ten overs of this match.

103 vs Sri Lanka in World Cup 2019

Apart from these two double Centuries, Rohit Sharma played one of the special ODI innings vs Sri Lanka in the 2019 World Cup at Leeds. Rohit Sharma equaled the record of Sachin Tendulkar’s most number of centuries by an Indian in the World Cup in this match. After scoring two consecutive centuries vs England and Bangladesh, a Century vs Sri Lanka would make Rohit the first Indian batsman to score three ODI World Cup Centuries continuously. And Rohit proved that he is the true Universe Boss in ODI cricket by scoring 103 of 94 balls. Once again the opening pair for India makes the task simple by contributing 189 runs partnership helped India a 7 wicket win to top the 2019 world Cup table.

Rohit Sharma Test Records vs Sri Lanka:

Rohit Sharma’s first test match vs Sri Lanka was at Galle 2015. Rohit scored only 13 runs playing both the innings of the match. Virat and Dhawan’s centuries helped India to put up a decent first innings total on the board. But India was choked in the second innings by Rangana Herath’s spin attack. Herath picked 7 wickets for 48 runs equalling the record of Bishan Bedi’s 266 wicket tally. Rohit’s poor batting and Spin attack helped Sri Lanka to lead the test series as 1-0 leading Sri Lanka to a 63 run win over India.

Soon in the very next text match at Colombo, Rohit Sharma reassured the selectors by scoring 79 runs contributing India to put up 393 runs on the board for the first innings. The overall batting and bowling performance from India in both the innings helped them to level the test series 1-1 by winning over 278 runs in the second Test match.

Rohit’s first and only test century vs Sri Lanka was at Nagpur in 2017. The match was fully dominated by the Indian batsman. Virat Kohli was the top scorer of the match with 213 runs followed by three centuries from Murali Vijay, Pujara, and Rohit Sharma. Rohit Sharma scored 102* runs in that innings. After returning to the test team nearly after 500 days Rohit clearly made the statement in that innings by proving that he is no more the unstable member of India’s Test lineup. India went on to win the match by a big margin of innings and 239 runs.

Rohit Sharma T20 Records vs Sri Lanka:

Rohit Sharma’s T20 performance vs Sri Lanka was not satisfying so far. His average vs Sri Lanka was 23.78. Rohit’s first T20 series vs Sri Lanka was at Colombo 2009 in which he scored only 4 runs batting at 4th down below MS Dhoni. Rohit had played 14 innings so far vs Sri Lanka and hasn’t had a single half-century in his name.

First T20 Century vs Sri Lanka

Rohit hit his first T20 century vs Sri Lanka at the 2nd T20 Match of Sri Lanka tour of India in Indore 2017. He scored 118 of just 43 balls with a superb strike rate of 274.41. Rohit broke multiple records in this match. His knock was the fastest century ever in T20 International cricket equalling the record of David Miller. He became the first Indian batsman to hit the most number of sixes in T20 International surpassing Yuvaraj Singh’s record.

Wrapping Up:

We can conclude that Rohit Sharma enjoys playing vs the Sri Lankan squad with this track record. His two other ODI double centuries came vs Sri Lanka, including the 264-run inning that set the record.
