The Last Date

So, yeah! The IPL teams got ready to announce their retained players. The BCCI has fixed the last date for the teams to promote their retained players. The date is November 30, 2021. 

The IPL teams must submit the list of retained players to the BCCI before November 30 of this year.

In this blog, as mentioned above, we will talk about the retention strategy of CSK.

Maximum Purse

The total purse denotes the highest amount spent by teams for IPL. According to 2021 IPL reports, every team owns 85 crore rupees. From IPL 2022 season, IPL teams will have 90 crore rupees as the available purse.

Retention Slabs

Retention Slabs are nothing but how much amount will get reduced if an IPL team retains four players.

For retaining:

  • Player 1 – 16 crore rupees
  • Player 2 – 12 crore rupees
  • Player 3 – 8 crore rupees
  • Player 4 – 6 crore rupees

In total, it takes 42 crore rupees.

If a team retains four players, the IPL team will reduce 42 crore rupees from the total 90 crore rupees budget.

If in case a team retains three players,

  • Player 1 – 15 crore rupees
  • Player 2 – 11 crore rupees
  • Player 3 – 7 crore rupees

In total, it takes 33 crore rupees.

If a team retains three players, the IPL team will reduce 33 crore rupees from the total 90 crore rupees budget.

If in case a team retains two players,

  • Player 1 – 14 crore rupees
  • Player 2 – 10 crore rupees

In total, it takes 24 crore rupees.

If a team retains four players, the IPL team will reduce 24 crore rupees from the total 90 crore rupees budget.

If in case a team retains a single-player,

  • Player 1 – 14 crore rupees

If a team retains four players, the IPL team will reduce 14 crore rupees from the total 90 crore rupees budget.

A maximum of three Indian capped players can be retained among these four players. Else a maximum of two foreign players or a maximum of two uncapped Indian players can be included. 

CSK’s Retention

CSK team will retain MS Dhoni. Being player 1, MSD will be taken for 15 or 16 crore rupees. If CSK includes four players, MSD will get 15 or 16 crore rupees.

CSK being the leading IPL team, will retain four players. So, MSD’s payment for the IPL season 2022 will be 16 crore rupees. MSD has been the man behind the CSK’s foundation since 2008.

Retaining MSD Benefits

Being the captain of CSK since 2008, MSD knows the exact winning points and formula. As a captain, he gave four titles for the CSK team.

Out of 196 IPL matches, MS Dhoni won 116 games as the captain. He has almost 60% of the winning ratio. Of course, MSD and his records make him own the winning formula. He is a grooming captain who can see more talents in the upcoming generation.

The Retention Possibilities

CSK team is expected to retain Ravindra Jadeja. Being an allrounder for the CSK team, Jadeja had given 1324 runs besides 100 wickets. He is the live-wire fielder.

Also, the team will be retaining Ruturaj Gaikwad for the season 2022. He had given 635 runs in 2021 IPL holding the orange cap.

The final spot being a foreign player, CSK had been left with more options, including

  • Dwayne Bravo
  • Faf du Plessis
  • Sam Curran
